Sea Eagle
Almost every bird photographer I've known loves to take pictures of raptors, especially large eagles. Maybe they are photogenic or maybe they are really difficult to take good pictures. Anyways, I was pretty lucky to get a glimpse of this magnificient sea eagle near the Mangalore coast over the weekend. The picture does not do justice to the beauty of the bird. It's very large and has a calm albatross like gliding flight as it surveys it's territory. The other sea shore birds paled in comparison to this white-bellied sea eagle.

For some reason it decided to fly real low so that I could get a nice picture of him!

Fabulous!
What a beautiful bird and great photo. I saw several Bald Eagles when I took a "spot the whales" cruise. Didn't see any whales but the other wildlife was wonderful.

Wow! There's just something quite amazing about raptors. Maybe it's the fact it's a carnivore that can fly? Hmmm...

Fantastic:-)

When were you in Mangalore? There is this eagle like bird (not like the sea eagle above) that comes and sits on our garage roof from time to time. Once the fellow got stuck in some plant vine and had to be rescued. I think he/she has a nest near by.

This weekend (14-15 Aug)

Could be a kite or even an eagle. But, knowing the area, I would think it's either a black kite(full brown body) or a brahminy kite(white head).

Yes it had a while head, it is a brahminy kite. I'll try to take its photo sometime.
