Yana is the name given to a bunch of limestone outcrops in the rainforests of the Western Ghats. In the sea of green, these dark rocks stand out. With spires and crevices, these rocks look as if they belonged in fairy tales.

Am planning to go here end Dec, but with family. Is this reachable by road? Or does one have to trek through a jungle or something? Any other interesting spots in the vicnity?

There are roads from both Kumta and Sirsi. You'll have to make a short hike to the place if you take either approaches and the hike is through a jungle, but on a wide trail (from the Sirsi side) and concrete steps from the Kumta side.

Ah, ok. Thanks. We will be staying in Kumta, and that seems to be the better option too! Goodie...

Wonderful. Today's Deccan Herald carries an article about Yana too. But the photos are...inadequate! :)

Such a splendor! It makes you totally speechless, I think, when you're there ... speechless and in awe!

Btw, Yana in Russian/Ukranian is a girl's name :)
Yathinyathin on December 9th, 2008 04:33 pm (UTC)
I think there's an Indian actress (of European origin) by that name but the 'na' in this Yana is pronounced slightly differently and sounds like a knock.

Are those trees horizontal? Wow. No, I mean "WOW"

Wow! One of the pics looked like two people talking to each other, I mean the rock formations looked like so. Another one looked like the face of a big giant. Beautiful!
