Point Reyes
Point Reyes National seashore is a narrow piece of land going out about ten miles into the ocean from mainland California. The drive to Point Reyes was delayed by over three hours because I was first stuck in a traffic jam on 101 north because of a six car accident and then stuck in San Francisco. Anyway, it was nice fun after that.

Black-tailed deer mother and calf. The mother's probably telling her child the secret of escaping from mountain lions and coyotes?

Camouflaged black-tailed deer. It was so sure that I had not seen it, that it did not move one bit while I changed my lens to get a better photograph.

Point Reyes light house beach

Sun bathing California Sea lion.

Drakes beach. This is where elephant seals come to breed during spring. They are probably out at sea, somewhere.

Sunset time on a road through Point Reyes.

Last rays of the sun on North beach, Point Reyes.

there's something about the shape of that drakes beach that is very appealing to the eye...

This are all wonderful, as usual, but I like the sea lion one and drakes beach the best.

oh, the colours are SO beautiful...the gold of the deer and their habitat, the blue and aquamarine of the water, the shading blues of the sky...

the black-tailed deer...why does the fawn not have a black tail? do the tail grow black at they mature?

Why is the sea lion alone?
Just rinished reading Sarath's post about the Asiatic lion, then came to your sea lion! I would be lion in my teeth if I said the association didn't tickle me...

Point Reyes deer being killed
Pics are not loading up at the moment? Anyway I love Point Reyes area.

Did you hear or read about the plans to get rid of all non-native deer? There is a big program to kill exotic deer as they are not native. The whole Pt Reyes area was once owned by a big SF guy who introduced deer there (brought from India!) and charged people for game kill.

But once govt bought the land that stopped and deer population jumped big time. So there is this massive plan to shoot the deer.

Re: Point Reyes deer being killed
Yep, environmentalists encourage elimination of exotic species everywhere in the world. I'm not surprised that there are plans to exterminate the spotted deer and the fallow deer which are not native to America.
