The Pacific
I can only imagine what Ferdinand Magellan saw in 1519, but whatever he saw he was probably right in calling it the Pacific. It is as blue as I had thought it would be and looks as calm as it's name suggests.

Monterey Bay

Monterey Bay

A flower on a cliff

17 mile drive, Monterey

California Sea Otter. I was glad that I could see one of these, but they were a little too far away for my camera.

Highway 1 - Probably the most scenic route I've ever been on

Rocky Creek Bridge, Highway 1

Bixby Bridge, Highway 1

Heermann's Gull Western Gull (southern 2nd winter). No trip is complete without a bird.

dude, as always, nice pics. The bay rocks! btw, sunset presents great photo opportunities along route 1 overlooks. (on a side note, costco is selling d50 and d70 bodies at discxount prices. good time to pick up a backup body...)

Thanks. I think I'll make a trip to Costco soon.

Beautiful pics! Looks a lot like my home state of California.. so you don't live in India?

*smacks forehead* I'm such a dummy sometimes.

California? But your name seems to suggest that you live in Rivendell ;-)
Yathinyathin on May 28th, 2006 09:23 pm (UTC)
Uninhabited California is like very much like Rivendell!
Margaretrivendweller on May 28th, 2006 11:50 pm (UTC)
Oh, it is Rivendell! Trees and flowers, and a river with waterfalls. It is magical. We lack elves, though... I think.
Yathinyathin on May 28th, 2006 09:11 pm (UTC)
I do live in India and will be back home in a few days! I'm in California for a short trip.
Margaretrivendweller on May 28th, 2006 11:47 pm (UTC)
I hope you have enjoyed you trip. I hope to visit India some day myself.

> I hope you have enjoyed you trip

Yep. It's been wonderful. :)

> I hope to visit India some day myself.

You should. India has so much to see and experience, I sometimes think I don't have enough time to do all that I want to. In a lot of ways the land is similar to the US, but we just have a lot more people living in a lot less area of land - so it may seem a little claustrophobic, since there are not many places left where there is just unending wilderness. Do let me know if you need any travel tips and I'll be glad to help. :)

Thank you for your kind offer! I hope I can take advantage of it some day.

These are amazing pics. Was getting bored of seeing pictures of American streets and buildings, lately.

Awesome photos. Route 1 is one of the most scenic drives in the U.S.

(I thought I commented once but something happened so if another comment shows up, it's me, the Texas goober who forgot to log on.)

I saw one cracking shellfish (that's what made me see in this direction first) and one had tied itself to the sea weeds and was sleeping calmly. :D

That Cypress Tree is copyrighted!
One small note on that "Lone Cypress" tree. Pebble Beach company - which manages 17 mile drive along with the properties - has a copyright on that! It is their logo and if you read the brochure it is written somewhere I think.

Apparently there was bit of controversy on that and ended up in court etc - and company won claiming it is their logo.

Re: That Cypress Tree is copyrighted!
Thanks for letting me know. I just looked up at their brouchure and it says "No description by photography, artist rendering, or any other means of any property owned by Pebble Beach company, include THE LONE CYPRESS, may be used for commercial purposes or published withoutht the prior consent of the Company"

I don't use my photographs for commericial purposes, but I'll have to find out about the publishing thing.

Re: That Cypress Tree is copyrighted!
Copyrighting a natural scene that they didn't even create? That is retarded.

beautiful images....
...and amazing that one lone tree on a stretch of beach can become a protected logo! That was very interesting info indeed.

We too did Route 1 some years ago, but our camera (no digital those days) had conked and we were cursing.

Would like to meet you after you return!
