Point Reyes
I did a short and hurried trip to Point Reyes this afternoon. The high tide came in early and I missed out on the tide pool shootout. And then I almost ran out of gasoline searching for a place to refuel. Couldn't have gotten worse right? It did. Near the light house, I saw a feral cat by the roadside with a kill. I first thought that the cat had gotten itself a ground squirrel, but it was later identified as a young Long-tailed Weasel! I saw an adult weasel later in the day, but it quickly ran away before I could pull over and take a shot.

I love that first shot, it looks like a painting. And if I had to get a print of any one picture, I'd choose that. :)

Ditto. That wide-angle is cool. The third is pretty good too.

I love that first one. There's something so hauntingly beautiful about abandoned/wrecked boats.

What the ...
The pics aren't just amazing, they're out of this world. Stunning... HDR?

Re: What the ...
Nope. No HDR for any of the images in this set. Just White Balance warming and saturation adjustments.

Re: What the ...
if your boat pics here aren't the perfect examples of when good old fashioned photography is just as good as (if not better than) HDR then i don't know what would be!! they're just crazy beautiful, anyway. amazing!

Wow! Beautiful Pics! The cat certainly looks FERAL!

Do they leave the boats out there to rot in water? I thought there is some kind of recycling or dismantling place for boats too! My! My! So much rotten metal and rust..
Yathinyathin on June 15th, 2009 06:02 pm (UTC)
That boat is on private property, so the owners probably want to keep it there for some reason I guess.

What lovely use of the light, and sad to know that the weasel was killed.

wow
I stumbled upon this picture while searching google images. I live maybe 300 yards away from that boat. My neighbor and I played on it everyday as kids. Never have i seen a better picture of it. Absolutely breathtaking. And the lighthouse photo is epic too. Good work. Go to the Olema visitor center and get a trail map. If you don't mind a hike you can reach the top of Mt. Wittenburg from either the visitor center or a short drive to the Sky Camp trailhead for a shorter hike to the peak. When u reach the almost top the trail (marked by a sign) splits left if u come from sky camp or right if u come from olema. Instead of going to the peak make a right if u come from sky and left if u come from olema where the trail T's and walk through the pine trees there. After a very short walk the trees will thin and open to a huge field. From there is an awesome view of Drakes Bay. Chimmney Rock, Drakes Beach, the Drakes Bay Estero, and Limantour Beach all are visible in a breathtaking view of the area. It's wild up there so it should make for an interesting photo shoot!!
