Tahoe and Lassen
It's been a crazy weekend. Traveling to Tahoe and Lassen National Park meant new places added to my list of travel destinations in the US, but spending so much time on the road meant that both places weren't satisfactorily experienced. There's always next time. However, this was my very first trip to an active volcanic area and I'm intrigued by Lassen National Park. The park still has a lot of snow and the main road through the park is closed, so maybe a trip in the summer is a must-do. Anyway, enough words, time for the pictures.

Yay, you finally did it. I told you that you would like Lassen. Try towards the end of June. The roads should be open, but you will still get the snow and lots of the tiny lakes will still have some amazingly coloured ice on them, but there will also be wildflowers and the geothermal activity as well.

Now that I've seen a little bit of Lassen, I surely want to go during the summer! :-)

I wouldn't mind getting lost in a place (2nd pic) like this, with Tom Hanks or Harrison Ford around :P

Beautiful set!!

I love the pic of the pelican! Did you know that two years ago, we saw a pelican swimming in the Boulder Reservoir (fake lake aimed to provide us with water). Where the heck did he come from? We are so much inland it's not even funny, did he fly over the mountains??

I think the White Pelicans are found all over the US. The Brown pelicans are the ones that stick to the seas and the coast.

Beautiful! Not sure what an HDR image is, but that looks more like a painting than a photo. Gorgeous, really!

i can practically smell the sulphur! (oh wait, that was just me farting.) :)

tahoe lake really is BLUE, huh...

what goodie did the sparrow find to chew on, i wonder? (looks big)

and i'm still not comfortable with the HDR. :)

Tahoe is real blue! And that's why it is sooooo popular (of course, it could also be because half of it is in Nevada and there are casinos on the border ;-)

Oh, those are wonderful. I am particularly fond of osprey. :)

I love Lassen, and backpack in the nearby Trinity Alps frequently. Hopefully, you'll have an opportunity to spend more time there at some point and have a less rushed visit. Those are amazing spots.

Yep, I'm hoping to get there on one of these summer weekends.

Here's a closer shot of the Osprey:

Yathin,

Very nice. I too was there at Tahoe last weekend, had some misadventures at hikes on the snow and then went for beautiful waterfalls. I am surprised not to see the Eagle Falls in your series ! You were at Emerald Bay, it takes just 45 mins RT for this hike.

Hi Summi,

There wasn't any parking available at Eagle Falls trailhead and besides we were too hungry to try it out. So, we went straight to South Lake Tahoe from Rubicon point to get some food.
