The Ancient Forest...
The Ancient Bristlecone pine forest in the Inyo National forest of eastern California is home to some of the world's oldest trees. Until recently, it had the oldest known tree in the world when an older tree was discovered in remote Sweden. These trees are not giants like the Sequoias, but having lived on earth for more than four thousand years, they are very, very special.

Just beyond the snow-covered mountains in the distance are the giant sequoias, but the drive is a good eight hours away! :)

Beautiful, Yathin! I dearly love those old trees. Hard to imagine how old they are.

BTW, you should post the photos of the squirrels, remember!? Those were amazing!

Yes, I will post the squirrels! They deserved a post of their own and before I could process their photographs, I went off on this exciting trip! :D

is that tree still alive?? it looks dead to me.
Yathinyathin on July 8th, 2008 08:10 pm (UTC)
The stupid yeti photographed only dead trees this time... :(
Yathinyathin on July 8th, 2008 08:11 pm (UTC)
...can't blame it since the dead trees looked more photogenic than live ones. :D
kejnkejn on July 8th, 2008 08:33 pm (UTC)
you're right, they're absolutely beautiful.

and have you spotted the little "creature" to the right of the tree in the last picture?! i can't decide if it's a hawk with its head cocked to the side (as if it's looking with one eye on something on the ground) or if it's an otter that stands on its hind legs, steadying itself on a rock with the front paws. :-)

Looks interesting... Here's the how it looks in full resolution:

weird looking thing! of alien blood most probably. :-) and look, now there's ANOTHER little critter to the right of it. a kitten, maybe? :-D
Yathinyathin on July 8th, 2008 09:16 pm (UTC)
looks like the grim woodreaper to me! ;)
kejnkejn on July 8th, 2008 09:22 pm (UTC)

suhassuhas on July 30th, 2008 04:29 pm (UTC)
He already has a species named after him - search for "yeti"...alien blood ;)
Yathinyathin on July 30th, 2008 04:39 pm (UTC)
you're telling a biologist to search for yeti? ;)
