Fog
A normal hot day on the coastal San Francisco area can suddenly turn all foggy like we found out (again) the other week when we were driving towards Point Reyes.

on the Golden Gate bridge

Fog moving in from the Pacific

Shooting birds is tough in fog - even with cooperative ones like this male Red-winged Blackbird

Another view of the blackbird. High ISO and dense fog result in very grainy photographs.

i was amazed to hear the other day that the red-winged blackbird display physical changes in the brain each year as they go into mating season and start to sing. nature is weird and wonderful!

I can agree to that research. They are so bold during the mating season and shy like mad during the off-season. :)

Fog is interesting ... !
The fog has very nice formations. It seems to form only over the land masses, and not over the waters of the bay. At places, where the land mass extends into the bay, the fog also extends over the land. Its interesting.

I have seen this near the Lagoon on 101 after the Airport, where the Monster park extends into the Bay. Also, if you are going 280S near South San Francisco, you can see the sun shining over the bay, but the rest is all covered by thick fog !
