Yosemite wildlife
Either wildlife is scarce in Yosemite or I was just having a bad day for animal sightings. A short seven mile hike resulted in a grand total of about twenty birds, a dead fish, a mountain Garter snake, lots of insects and some UV burns. We did see American black bear scat and Coyote pug marks, but no luck with the carnivores or any other mammal. Anyway, I was lucky enough to photograph a Coyote next to the road and also find a Blue Grouse in the parking lot!

Coyote. Was lucky to spot this guy. He stood there for a couple of seconds - brilliantly camouflaged and staring right at me. Thankfully, I had the right lens on my camera and was quickly able to get a decent photograph!

Blue Grouse. This one was so used to humans that it actually came and stood next to me (almost touching my jeans) for a moment.

no wonder the coyote was on the lookout. tame fowl on the parking lot - yum! :-)

The grouse is actually smart. It's knows that the Coyote will not dare to come close to the humans in the parking lot.

But, I'm sure the crafty Coyote will be able to come up with some brilliant ideas. ;)

Yep! The first time I saw a coyote I was hugely disappointed that it did not look half as nice as the the great Wile E Coyote! :)

I'm sure he's looking at better ideas from the historical documents:

Wow! I thought I had seen all their cartoons, but that last one I had never seen before.

this isn't fair. We saw coyotes SO far away, and they loped off so fast that we couldn't even think of the camera...and these creatures apparently walk up to you and say hello! (Someone obviously told them that Yathin, the camera guy was around, he would do free portraits...)

Seriously, to spot wildlife is difficult, to take photographs, more difficult, and to take GOOD photographs, most difficult of all.

And don't say "short seven-mile hike" in a nonchalant way like that. On a steeply climbing trail, I could last out only 6 miles or so, much to the amusement of my young and superbly fit niece!

What, forgot the sunblock eh? Hope you are feeling better now... sun-roasted Yathin might be a good dish for Wile.E and co.!

I (and other LJ readers) are enjoying your trip quite as much as you are, thanks to your posts and pics! Thank you!
